According to People Familiar with the Matter
Tim Gales
Produced by Tim Gales
Mixed by Vincent Cirilli
In 1996 I played in clubs around Southern California with my band – Tim Gales & the Stand. I had a great time. – especially playing the famous Troubadour – twice! The decade was very prolific for my writing and recording. I haven’t recorded anything new for awhile. This project is a rescue effort. Most song tracks were recorded in the mid-90s. The plan was for my next album project to be a double CD of covers and originals. However, life took me in a different direction. I began working for Disney Feature Animation as a compositor. My time at Disney was rewarding working on animated movies from 1995-2003 before the studio closed. But the experience halted my album project. After 28 years, I’m rescuing these songs from hidden drives and giving them life.
From the soul finding cover of “First Cut Is The Deepest” to the painful original, “Not Good Enough,” I send them out to the world. Check out the special notes included before each song lyric and you’ll understand the reason for the title of the project – According to People Familiar with the Matter. Whether you’re someone new or you’re somehow connected to these songs – you know who you are – you might familiar with the matter.
Special thanks to Norm Sancho, Jaysen Hawks, Tony Mazza, Rick Dohr for their impeccable work as the musicians on most of these songs. Thanks to Jamie Dunlap for the great guitar work on “Nothing’s New” Thank you to Jane Bolduc for singing a beautiful harmony on “My Heart is a Wild Thing”, Thanks to Vini Cirilli for doing a great job mixing. Thanks to Austin Moorhead for producing new tracks on the noted songs, DeVonna & Shane Lawrence for the amazing gospel choir and angelic harmonies on “Fly Like An Eagle “ and “Not Good Enough,” Cheshy for the fun work on “Baby’s Got A New Face On” and the other folks from Soundbetter.com who contributed to this project… and most of all to my husband, Brian Houck, for his love and support in helping me find my way back to music.
